Wayla is an application that helps people create digital documentaries for live events. For the application launch a handful of artists and designers were asked to created artwork based on the prompt: An event you wish you could have attended. I chose the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing. The making of this shot involved a 1976 model television purchased on Craigslist for $10, an American flag frozen in a block of ice, and a bit of luck.
When I think of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, I think of “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” I wonder if we have kept stride with that ‘giant leap’ in subsequent years. In many ways we have, in other ways we have not, but the raw inspiration generated from the event will forever interest me.
